PE and Sports Premium at Locks Heath Junior School

What is PE and Sports Premium?
The primary PE and Sports Premium was introduced in March 2013 to improve the provision of physical education and school sport in primary schools across England. The funding is allocated directly to primary schools and is ring-fenced.  This means it may only be spent on improving the provision of PE and sport in schools.

What are we trying to achieve with our PE and Sport Premium spend?

At Locks Heath Junior School PE and sports provision have always been an integral and valued part of our school curriculum.  We allocate our funding to the continuous professional development of teachers and providing opportunities for children to participate in sports competitions and to try new sports.  In addition to this we try to increase children's activity levels through providing exciting and engaging outdoor play equipment and activities including a sports holiday club.

How do we assess the impact PE and Sports Premium has on pupils?

We use various measures to assess the impact of PE and Sports Premium spend.  These include teacher assessment of pupil levels in PE, quantitative and qualitative  information gathered regarding sports participation, NHS Year 6 height and weight check data and through the monitoring of the quality of teaching and learning of PE.

How will we ensure improvements will be sustainable?

Schools have no guarantee that PE and Sports Premium funding will be continued beyond 2019 therefore there is an obligation to ensure the current spend not only impacts positively on current pupils but that there is a legacy of sustained improvement in the future.  At Locks Heath Junior School the investment in teachers continuous professional development has resulted in a considerable skill set amongst the staff in a variety of different disciplines.  Through team-teaching, coaching and mentoring we aim to ensure these skills are passed on to new members of staff thus ensuring sustainable improvement.

When is the next PE and Sports Premium review?

The next PE and Sports Premium review will take place on Friday 15th July 2022.
