Music at Locks Heath Junior School
Music is a highly valued and very important part of life at Locks Heath Junior School. Our school has a long tradition in excellence in music and we are very proud of all our choirs, orchestra, bands and recorder groups. Every child is given weekly opportunities to experience a full creative and rich curriculum and also to take part in many extra-curricular activities. We aim to develop all pupils’ ability to perform music, both instrumental and vocal through singing, playing and performing with others. Pupils are also given many opportunities to compose music, respond to music in different ways and to develop their ability to listen to music.
Our children perform regularly to smaller audiences, parents and to the wider community both in school and in local theatres and other schools. Our two very successful annual productions are eagerly anticipated by the whole school community. Year 4 perform a nativity play in December and Year 6 put on a major production.
We believe that music has a positive effect on all aspects of children’s learning, improving listening skills, concentration, coordination, self esteem, self discipline, confidence and perseverance. It lies at the heart of the cultural and spiritual life of our school community. We hope that music at Locks Heath Juniors will start children on a musical pathway that will continue throughout their lives.
