  • Being a Locks Heath School Governor
All types of people can become School Governors.  Locks Heath Junior School welcomes new Governors who can bring skills and expertise they’ve developed at work, or who have a good understanding of the community served by the school.  You don’t just to have a child at our school  – anyone who’s interested in education and supporting their local community can get involved.
No special qualifications are required, but you must be 18 or over on the date when you are elected or appointed.
If you are interested in becoming a Locks Heath School Governor you could contact:
The school office to enquire about potential vacancies
Hampshire County Council website and search for Governor

The School Governors’ One-Stop Shop

Where can I find out more?
The School Governors’ One-Stop Shop, as does the Department of Education website, has information on what’s involved in being a Governor, where the opportunities to get involved are, and how you can apply.
Hampshire County Council will also have information on their website.

The types of Governors are as follows:
  • Parent Governors: selected by election and drawn from parents and carers of children at the school.
  • Staff Governors: selected by election from teaching and support staff paid to work at the school.
  • Community Governors: appointed by the Governing Body to represent community interests.
  • Authority Governors: appointed by the Local Authority.
  • Sponsor Governors: discretionary category appointed by the Governing Body from individuals who have made significant (financial contributions to the school.
  • Associate Members (not Governors): appointed by the Governing Body to attend committee meetings and/or Full Governing Body meetings due to their particular skills or experience.

Roles of Governor – the Governing Body must appoint a Chair and Vice-Chair and may wish to make a number of other specific appointments to lead on certain aspects of the school.  Committees of the Governing Body – the Governing Body can delegate certain of its responsibilities to Committees or individual Governor.
