Below are a few details about Year 5 Home Learning. If you need any further help with what your child should be doing at home or how you can help, then please feel free to pop in and see us.
Spellings are handed out on a Monday. The children should be re-writing their list (using Look, Cover, Spell, Check) on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, the spelling journals should be handed in. In addition to this the children are given a spelling task on using their words in sentences that they must complete. The spelling sentences should be completed underneath their spellings in the journal.
The children are expected to read at least 4 times a week. We encourage the children to read as often as possible (for 10-15minutes) to any willing listener! We ask that you record when they have read at home. We also use their reading journal as a communication book between school and home. Please feel free to record any other books/magazines/comics etc.. your child enjoys to read. As well as a library book at their level, the children will also have access to a library book of their choice. They have an opportunity at least once a week to change this book.
Mental Arithmetic Book:
In addition, a mental arithmetic book will be going home after October half term for the children to complete. This will be handed in weekly. Should you or your child have any concerns or queries about any of the tasks, then please don't hesitate to ask your Class Teacher in plenty of time. We anticipate that some of the questions may be challenging. If you help your child with a question, we would appreciate an ‘H’ in a circle to indicate this. This can then be addressed in school.
Finally, your child will receive three homework projects to complete throughout the year. We will send this homework out as hardcopy as well as an attachment in an email. For further information regarding homework, please see our Homework Policy on the school website. Thank you for your continued support.
