  • YEAR 4 HOME LEARNING

Below are a few details about Year 4 Home Learning. If you need any further help with what your child should be doing at home or how you can help, then please feel free to pop in and see us.

Spellings:

Spellings are handed out a Monday. The children should be re-writing their list (using Look, Cover, Spell, Check) on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday we test the children. In addition to this the children are given a spelling task that they must complete. Words are linked to children’s spelling ability and generally follow a particular pattern or rule.

Reading:

In Year 4 children are encouraged to explore different authors and a range of texts. They choose, sometimes with support, a book from the class reading corner suitable to their reading ability. Each child has a Reading Record and they are encouraged to keep this as a diary recording their own thoughts and opinions about the book as well as sketches and pictures of characters. We encourage the children to read regularly at home and the Reading Record is a valuable tool for home school contact. The children also have access to a library book of their choice. They have an opportunity at least once a week to change this book.

Weekly Home Learning:

We set the same home learning across the year group. Home learning will usually be set on a Thursday and is due in on a Tuesday. If for any reason your child is unable to complete their home learning then please let their class teacher know. We ask that the children spend at least 30 minutes on this piece of homework. We ask that all home learning be completed using a HB pencil. Whenever possible, we would like an adult to sign the piece of home learning and would welcome any comments regarding how your child found the task.

Thank you for your continued support
